Who is it for?

Are you 11 to 16 years old? Interested in developing your ideas & stories into media projects? Come and discover your talents in writing, photography and filmmaking.
New members welcome and no experience needed.

What will I be doing?

Having fun creating visual stories, using camera and sound!
Work as a team led by experienced tutors and peer leaders who will support you.
Attend one or ideally, both sessions.

What happens when I arrive?

You will be greeted by our friendly team of tutors and young people who will help you with the registration form and give you a tour of our studio and rehearsal rooms.

You can relax in our foyer with games and light refreshments before the workshop begins.

We welcome new people all through the term at Second Wave and encourage everyone to take part in their own time.

Where do the workshops take place?

Walk all the way down Deptford High Street (Greenwich side) until you reach Creek Road. There, you will find the big red brick Methodist Mission Building on 1 Creek Road. You will also see our big blue Wave windows. Cross the road and when you reach the green doors, ring the Intercom buzzer for Second Wave. Our friendly team will buzz you up!

  • No :) We welcome all young women at all levels of experience.

  • Yes, our workshops are free for local young people. There are no additional charges.

  • Absolutely! You and your friends are very welcome.

  • Second Wave was established in 1982 by a group of local young women. Led by the youth, our programmes reflect issues that are of interest and relevance to young people. We provide opportunities for young people to explore a range of creative arts, work experience, volunteering, traineeships and more

  • We run regular workshops on Saturdays and evenings. Call us to find out more.

  • We run all through the year. The half-term workshop for young women will run on Thursday 1 June 2023 from 12pm - 3:30pm. The Summer Saturday programme is 11 weeks long from 6 May - 15 July 2023 and open to both young women and young men.

  • There is free parking on some parts of Watergate Street on weekdays but it can be tricky to find. Watergate Street is just around the corner from Second Wave.

A fun and friendly group, Saturday Fusion is a great way to develop your skills and confidence. No experience needed and new people are always welcome.
