My Story
By Sia Musa
Hi
My name is Sia Musa and I am 18 years old. I came from Sierra Leone 11 months ago with my mum and 3 sisters.
As a refugee, I have already experienced a great change in my life, big challenges as well as opportunities.
7 months ago, I joined a Youth Arts organisation called Second Wave in Deptford, after I watched their film in my college (Lewisham College) called Shadow Games. The scenario was basically related to my status in the UK. Since then I have taken part in lots of workshops and events and joined their Changemakers volunteering programme.
This means I am learning how to support other young people and represent the views of other youth especially young women.
As well as developing my skills in acting, writing and media, being a volunteer has made a real difference to my confidence. Second Wave helped me to believe in myself.
I am very motivated to develop my own skills and support others as a youth leader.
I want to explore real issues that affect young people, and also to reflect in the lives of refugee youth.
At Second Wave, I believe that young people working together to develop plays, poems, films and other events can build solidarity between us as a community.
